Dave and Bill Hike Jack London Park
Join “Dave and Bill Hikes” for a hike on the Sonoma Ridge Trail at Jack London State Historic Park, rain or shine. This trail, which is a link of the Bay Area Ridge Trail, starts above the lake and wanders through redwood stands gradually ascending up to the ridge top. This moderate eight mile hike has an elevation gain of 1800 feet and should last approximately five hours. Wear sturdy shoes and layered clothing, and bring plenty of water and a lunch. There will be a lunch break on a grassy slope just short of the summit - the views are better. (Bring a ground cloth for seating.)
Meet at 9:45 am in the upper parking lot (turn right just past the kiosk) for a prompt 10 am departure. $7 for the parking fee. Anyone wishing to carpool can meet at the St. Francis (Safeway) shopping center at 9:20 AM. The meeting place is in the corner of the parking lot nearest the Calistoga Road and Highway 12 intersection. This is a “leaderless” carpool meeting place i.e. it’s up to those who are there to organize the carpool. Visit the website or call (707) 833-6288 for more information. - December 15 - 16 : Carols in the Caves
David Auerbach plays more than fifty exotic and rare folkloric instruments and brings a couple of dozen of them to a single show. The shows are improvised and unique and there are no other performers, except you, the audience. You are invited to sing along on familiar carols that are interspersed among obscure old Christmas selections from centuries ago. This year, Auerbach will not be performing at any Sonoma County venues. But his closest show is just on the other side of the county line at Hans Fahden Vineyards (inside a candlelit, lakeside, mountain-top cave), 4855 Petrified Forest Road in Calistoga. $40; 2 p.m.; (707) 224-4222
