The fine men of the Windsor Fire Protection District carried the giant, 6-foot-diameter pumpkin pie to the pavilion at the Windsor Town Green, as part of the annual Pumpkin Festival. Pictured are Engineer/Firefighter Keith Muelheim, Captain Ron Busch, and Volunteer Engineer/Firefighter PJ Toste. Also pictured is Steve Castelli, husband of Glenda Castelli, who started the event. Steve made the large pan in which the pie is cooked. After all, where can you buy a 6' diameter pie tin?

Back in 2003, Windsor set the Guinness World Record for the biggest pumpkin pie with their 6-footer. But, two years later, a group in Ohio broke it with a 12-foot pie. So, the Windsor organizers were left to decide whether to go for the record again. But, doing so would mean that they would have to build their own giant oven which wouldn't pass California food safety regulations. Meaning, that after the big pie was cooked and applauded and photographed, it would be thrown away.

The organizers decided to skip the glitz and opted for the real thing. They continued using the Costeaux French Bakery's oven to make a 6-foot pumpkin pie that everyone could actually eat. Windsor doesn't make the biggest pie anymore. But, they make the best, rich with organic eggs from Triple T Farm and Clover whipped cream on top. There's a rumor that the Ohio event uses…Cool Whip! So, we wish the folks in Ohio all the best. But, we'll stay right here in Sonoma County with the good stuff.
