Overview of Southeast Santa Rosa

by Maja Wood
for About.com

The southeast quadrant is the area that falls south of 4th St. and east of Hwy. 101 See map Note that 4th St. turns into Sonoma Hwy. (also called Hwy. 12), east of Farmers Ln.

This is where Santa Rosa began. When Maria Carrillo was offered land by her son-in-law General Vallejo, sometime around 1840, she chose a lush spot beside the Santa Rosa Creek on which to build her home. The Carrillo Adobe still stands.

The area around the Adobe is the Montgomery Village neighborhood. It surrounds the outdoor Montgomery Village Shopping Center , which is a bit more upscale than the other Santa Rosa malls. Another well-known neighborhood within this quadrant is Bennett Valley.

This area is know for the beautiful tri-parks of Howarth Park, Spring Lake and Annadel Park.
