Most of the hikes on this list are in places that are not typically open to the public. So, here's your chance to see some of Sonoma's hidden beauty.

  • August 2-3: Riddell Preserve Stewardship Campout
    Lend a hand on LandPaths' Riddell Preserve, 400+ beautiful acres west of Healdsburg. We'll take on ranch chores such as removing broom and fir seedlings to improve habitat and reduce fuel load, as well as road improvements. Plenty of time for hiking, sharing potluck food on the cabin deck, and having fun! Moderate work & fun; Join for for one or both days; RSVP for arrival times

  • August 9 : Estero Paddle
    For the first time and the veteran paddler – and for birders, too. This trip on the little-known Estero Americano, just south of Bodega Bay, will highlight its rocky outcroppings, wild beach, & quiet waters. Access via land protected by a partnership between the District & Sonoma Land Trust. BYO kayak & lunch;Mild, flat-water; 3-5 miles; Inquire for boat rental options. Reservations are required and space is limited for this free, public outing.

  • August 9 : Carrington Ranch Patrol Training
    This historic coastal ranch near Bodega Bay, protected by the Open Space District, will soon become part of Sonoma Coast State Park. Extra “eyes & ears” will help safeguard the property. After this training you can hike the property as often as you like, sending in brief reports after each visit.

  • August 12 : Taylor Mountain Full Moon Hike
    An evening hike is an enchanting way to experience the 1000+ acre Taylor Mountain Open Space Preserve, protected by the Open Space District. Enjoy a picnic dinner and sunset (and maybe even look for bats) before heading down under the light of the full moon.

  • August 14 : Willow Creek Orientation
    Hike, bike and horseback ride on the new 3,300-acre Willow Creek State Park near Duncans Mills. Permits are free after one-hour orientation. Scheduled summer dates are below. Contact us to RSVP: outings@LandPaths.org or call LandPaths Event Line: (707) 524-9318

  • August 23 : Grove of Old Trees Meditation Walk
    Find respite from the summer heat and busyness for this walk among old growth redwoods near Occidental. Meditation instructor Susan McCarn will introduce ‘mindful walking’ and encourage us to give full attention to the sights, smells, & sounds of the natural world. No meditation experience required. Easy walk; Families welcome - ages 5 & up; ADA accessible.

  • August 23 : Hike at the Future Tolay Lake Regional Park
    Reservations are mandatory. Please call the Regional Parks Special Events Hotline at (707) 565-2730 to make a reservation, and leave a message including: Your name, Number of people in your vehicle, Personal e-mail & phone number. RSVP by Wednesday, August 20

  • August 24 : Saddle Mountain Hike
    We’ll hike a portion of this 960-acre future park, highlighting the diversity of habitats and sweeping vistas. Moderate to steep 3-4 miles; uneven footing; BYO picnic dinner. Reservations are required and space is limited for this free, public outing.

  • August 24 : Dave and Bill Hike
    Annual picnic – speaker and mini-hike: Meet at the Shady Oaks Picnic Area of Spring Lake Regional Park. Grilled brats will be ready to serve at 4pm. Please bring either a salad or dessert to share and your own drinks. $5 donation requested. At around 5pm Sonoma County Supervisor Valerie Brown will give a talk about land preservation as well as issues facing Sonoma County. At 5:45pm the mini-hike will begin. This pleasant 3 mile hike will wander around Spring Lake and will finish around 7:15. Don't forget the vehicle admission fee or plan to park free on Violetti Road.

  • August 27 : Healdsburg Ridge Preview Hike
    Join LandPaths for an after work hike and picnic dinner. This 152+ acre Open Space Preserve, protected by the District, is slated to be open for public access this fall. Moderate hiking; 2-3 miles; Families welcome.

  • August 30 : Wright Hill Ranch (aka Poff Ranch) Coastal Grasslands Hike
    This 1235 acre property, purchased by the Open Space District in partnership with the State Coastal Conservancy, features amazing views, extensive wildlife habitat, and future trail connections. 5-6 mile hike with 1000 ft. elevation gain; BYO lunch.
