When people say "downtown Santa Rosa" or "Fourth Street" they are usually referring to the "Courthouse Square District." The "official" downtown is comprised of this area plus Santa Rosa Plaza mall, and Historic Railroad Square.
The two-level mall is anchored by Macy's, Mervyn's and Sears. It features approximately 110 specialty stores including Abercrombie & Fitch, Ann Taylor Loft, Apple, Banana Republic, BeBe Sport, The Body Shop, The Disney Store, Gap, Victoria's Secret. (The large window at the Food Court is a great place to view the wind-animated artwork "Digitized Field" on the building across the street.)
Located on the east side of town, Montgomery Village was the city's first shopping center and it now houses many of the area's higher-end specialty stores. The central courtyard area is attractive and features live jazz music during the summer, as well as the popular Monti's Rotisserie and Bar.
This mall toward the northern part of town, just off Hwy. 101, is anchored by Gottschalks, JCPenney, and Macy's. Perhaps because it is a single-level structure, (with no stairs for rampant tots to fall from) it has grown particularly popular with moms. In fact, the mall has started a Kidgits Club that offers family entertainment and activities plus a birthday club, newsletter, discounts and more.
